SUMMARY OF 20 JAN 2011 LESSON

EVOLUTION OF MATHEMATICS:
      Today S1-04 covered the evolution of Mathematics, and here are some of the things the students found interesting:
-Tally marks(used since ancient times to record the passing of seasons)
-Different people, different problem-solving methods.
-Roman numerals(still in existence)
-Egyptians discovered fractions
-Abacus(made calculations easier)
-Using strings/shells as currency
-Hindus invented modern numbers
-Numbers were represented using different shapes/objects
-Revolutionized long division-algorithm
